Inside Man

Director: Spike Lee
Year released: 2006

Synopsis: A Nazi war-criminal who's built a bank empire on blood money hides evidence to his crimes in one of his banks. A brilliant robber decides to gain this evidence and along with it, dozens of diamonds. The story primarily follows a Detective, Keith Frazier, who's assigned with dealing with the bank robbery-turned hostage situation.

Cinematography: Good use of close-ups to create meaning and show the reactions of characters. Also using the portrait view during the opening shots to show a cramped space and make us also feel claustrophobic along with Dalton Russel. For example the following mid-shot gives us more information by showing us the various policeman behind the character, the information being that this is a very serious situation that requires a large police force to deal with. Him being more in focus than his background also shows that he has a lot more importance to the plot than the other characters in frame.

Mise-en-scene: Use of lighting to hint at the darker side of certain characters. For example when Keith Frazier was 'interrogating' Arthur Case and half of Arthur's face was shrouded in darkness while the other half was brightly lit. This shows he has a more hidden dark side. However in this shot the dark side is towards the camera and we can see his more twisted past. Considering this scene is all about Frazier exposing his secrets, it makes sense that the darker side of his face was exposed to the camera.

  1. Adam this in part is good you raise some good points, however the layout seems to discourage you from writing freely. As discussed before all good writing and to access higher points should contain CCCEO. How much of this do you think you have used?
