Sausage Party

Performance: The writers were excellently clever, although the excessive penis jokes got a bit much. This means that the performers had a very good basis to go off of and I think the very good voice actors coupled with the writing worked very well. Even without the terrific animation I think I would have been able to tell the emotions of every character through their voice. I don't think a lot of Disney movies have that quality of voice acting. Although I suppose it's to be expected with such an experienced cast. 9/10

Cinematography: Just because a film is animated and doesn't use any camera's, doesn't mean that it doesn't use any of the shots or any cinematography for that matter. The various close ups and fast cuts to different shots of...'violence' were unrelenting and added to the humor very much. Every action sequence showed nearly constant scenes of comedic brutality, it never gave us a break from the laughs. 9/10

Sound: Some of the sound effects seemed slightly stupid but I suppose that was purposeful due to the nature of the film and the whole comedy genre. The Meatloaf singing "I Would Do Anything For Love" was also adding to the humor of the whole situation and absurdity of it all. And the cultural music of the scene with Firewater to make him seem even more Native American. In fact through out the entire film giving the different personality tropes to the 'races' of the foods using music, for example the Mexican bar, added some racial humor without being too offensive. 8/10

Light: Even though all of the light was artificial and drawn, it still rings true that it can create meaning, just like the cinematography. For example the dark red colouring of the scene I featured above just to make it seem more sinister and evil was just adding insult to injury and the grey, white, dull colour scheme of the scene that was parodying Normandy made it very hard to deny the connection and just really drove home the joke. 10/10

Mise-en-scene: Because it was a comedy, there wasn't much deep, hidden meanings behind what was on screen, however there were little details that added little touches of humor. The scene I referenced earlier with the Mexican bar and it's various decorations just to make it seem more Mexican played with the stereotypes very well. Everything on screen added something to the scene, whether it be adding to the concept of food being sentient or simply a little more realism or comedy. 9/10
